My Story

Originally, I am from Las Vegas but I grew up in Tucson, Arizona. The first Texas city I called home was Austin. I raced motocross and Texas was really on of the places to be if you wanted to be taken seriously. The first clinic I ever worked at was in north Austin, I started as a kennel tech. After about a year and a half, I moved to a different clinic in central Austin as a receptionist before becoming a vet tech. In 2014, I moved to the greater Houston area and started at Blue Pearl working in critical care. I did that for 4 years before transferring to neurology, primarily focusing on anesthesia. When Dr. McFadden expressed interest in starting his own business in 2019, I gave him a huge nudge and helped him get to work!

Animals have always been my passion. From bugs and creepy-crawlies, to wildlife, to crusty-old critters I’d find that needed help, I knew veterinary medicine was my calling. I still rescue bugs and wildlife from pools and roadways or from the hallway of a building when others are freaking out.

Professionally, anesthesia is really something I love. Being able to assess patients and come up with a protocol that best works for each specific case, is really rewarding. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to medicine so being able to adjust and pivot is a necessity. Critical cases or cases that turn from “routine” to “oh crap!” are exciting and truely fulfilling. Being able to give a certain medicine here, try this trick there, and tweak things from a pharmaceutical stand-point for a specific desire, literally never gets old.

I’m the middle of 3 kids. I have an older and younger brother but they all live in Arizona. My mom and step-dad own their own business, my little brother is a plumber and basically a wizard at all DIY stuff. My older brother works at a law-firm whose main focus is on immigration rights. I have a beautiful daughter, Scottie, who is my soul-mate and love of my life. If you’ve been to our practice, you’ve probably met her. She’s the HAPPIEST baby ever.

Oh gosh. My animals, where do I even start? I am a HUGE pittie lover, so naturally there a a billion that need rescue. I have Billie, 13, who was dumped in the parking lot at Blue Pearl when she was about 2. She’s my old lady and the most chill, unbothered, sweet girl around. Phyllis Vance (aka Potato) is a little staffy that was born at a general practice via c-section and had a cleft palate. The owners wanted to euthanize her but I begged them to let me try and save here. That was 6 years ago and although she’s my little lemon-of-a-dog, she really saved me and I’m obsessed with her. Then there is Lola, a 7 or 8 year old pittie that we did surgery on at Montgomery County Animal Shelter after she had been hit by a car (on 2 separate occasions) and found in a ditch. I remember she woke up from anesthesia just wagging her tail. I knew I had to foster her through her recovery at that point… but foster failed later that week. When you know, you know. My daughter has a dog, Brandon, a 1 year old Shih-Tzu that was an owner surrender at the shelter in Deer Park. One of our partner rescues pulled him (Sit Happens, SHOUT OUT!) and I offered to foster. He is OBSESSED with Scottie and she adores him, so naturally, I foster failed him… but for her.

I have various farm animals on our hobby-farm as well. Goats, horses, donkeys, chickens, pigs, cattle—if you ever need a some farm therapy, I got you!

I’m really passionate about animal rescue. Our overpopulation crisis in Texas is so horrible. I always urge everyone to foster, adopt, and donate to local rescues. That’s why I love HMVS so much. We all have a huge passion for rescue and a pretty general “anti-breeding” stance so we all get along great.

Outside of work, I always have a project going on. From building a huge instagram-worthy chicken coop, to a goat hotel, gardening, tractor duties or grooming my horse, it’s always something, I call them “farm chores” but really it’s just my way of relaxing and taking in life!
